Partizan's late response was not enough after Vojvodina's strong first half

Partizan's late response was not enough after Vojvodina's strong first half

Partizan recovered from a difficult first half and Erik Kojzek scored twice, but Vojvodina won 3-2 in Belgrade. The home side applied its strongest pressure after halftime. By then, the visitors had already scored twice, and they added a third goal while Partizan was trying to equalise. Partizan began the match with energy, but several defensive mistakes gave Vojvodina control of the score. The late response made the finish tense without completing the comeback.

A positive opening produced no reward

Partizan began with energy in front of a large home crowd. Ze received the first clear chance, but the forward did not score. Soon afterwards, Milan Kolarevic put Vojvodina ahead when his shot changed direction after touching Sidney Lima. The deflection gave the goalkeeper little time to react. The attack also showed that Vojvodina could find shooting space when Partizan sent several players forward.

Kolarevic scored his second goal before halftime after another direct attack. Partizan had reached the attacking third, but Vojvodina had made better decisions near goal. The visitors finished their chances, while Partizan's attacks ended without the decisive final touch. That difference produced the two-goal halftime lead and shaped the rest of the match.

Changes gave the attack a clearer reference point

An injury forced Ze to leave before the break, and Kojzek took his place. Partizan also introduced Vukotic and Seck as it looked for more movement around the penalty area. The substitutions were not cosmetic. The home side attacked with greater purpose, recovered second balls higher up the pitch and made Vojvodina defend for longer periods. Kojzek reduced the deficit after sustained pressure, giving the crowd a reason to believe that the match could still turn.

Kojzek stayed close to goal as the attacks developed and offered a clear target when Partizan moved the ball forward. However, the home side also needed to protect the space behind its attack. While Partizan pushed for an equaliser, Vojvodina found that space and Pavle Randjelovic scored the visitors' third goal. Partizan kept attacking, but its defensive cover was not reliable enough.

The third concession changed the value of the late goal

After Randjelovic scored, Partizan needed two goals merely to draw. Kojzek scored again in added time, so his second finish could only reduce the deficit. His two goals still matter. The substitute gave the coaching staff another attacking option and showed that the team competed until the final whistle. They do not erase the earlier periods when Vojvodina found space and forced Partizan to chase the game.

The final score looks close, but the order of the goals explains the match more clearly. Vojvodina built a two-goal lead, survived Partizan's strongest pressure and then scored once more. Partizan's second goal arrived very late. The visitors did not dominate every minute, but they responded at the moment when the home side was closest to an equaliser.

What Partizan can carry into the next match

The useful lesson is not that the second-half approach should simply be repeated from the opening whistle. Partizan increased its risk because it was already behind. A better starting point would combine the same directness with more care when possession is lost. The team needs runners close enough to support the attack and defenders positioned to slow the first counterattack. That would allow pressure to continue without leaving a large space for the opponent's next pass.

Kojzek has strengthened his case for a larger role, but one forward cannot solve every problem. Partizan must finish early chances more calmly, react faster after losing the ball and communicate better when a shot is deflected or a loose ball remains in play. Vojvodina showed the value of simple and accurate actions. Partizan fought until the end, but future points will require a balanced performance from the opening minutes.

The match also gives Partizan a clear training priority. The distance between its midfield and defence must remain short when both full-backs advance. A nearby midfielder can delay the counterattack and give defenders time to recover their positions. That adjustment would let the team keep its attacking pressure without offering the opponent a direct route toward goal.
