Angelina Topic finished fifth in the women's high jump at the London Diamond League meeting. The Serbian athlete cleared 1.96 metres, matching her best outdoor result of the season. She then made three unsuccessful attempts at 1.99 metres. Two athletes cleared 2.01 metres at the top of the final standings.

Topic passed the first two heights on her opening attempt. The middle part of the competition took much longer. She required three attempts at 1.93 metres and two at 1.96. That sequence, together with the final misses at 1.99, determined her fifth-place finish.

The first two heights were cleared immediately

Topic entered the competition at 1.85 metres. She cleared that height on her first attempt. The bar then moved to 1.89, where she again succeeded immediately. Her scorecard therefore remained clean through the opening two rounds.

Failed attempts become important when athletes finish on the same height. High jump placings first compare the number of failures at the final cleared height. If athletes remain level, the full competition count is used. Topic's early clearances protected her count before the harder rounds.

London included three of the four medal winners from the World Indoor Championships in March. The field therefore placed Topic against several leading jumpers. Her opening sequence kept her in the competition as the bar approached her outdoor season best.

Three attempts were required at 1.93

The first interruption came at 1.93 metres. Topic missed twice before clearing the bar on her third attempt. That successful jump kept her in the event. It also added two failures to her scorecard before the next height.

The bar then rose by three centimetres. Topic missed her first attempt at 1.96 and cleared it on the second. The result equalled the mark she recorded earlier in the season in Athens. It became her highest successful jump in London.

Topic had used five attempts across those two heights. The official sequence was first, first, third and second at 1.85, 1.89, 1.93 and 1.96. Those details explain the placing more accurately than the final height alone.

The competition ended at 1.99 metres

Topic made three attempts after the bar moved to 1.99 metres. None was successful, so her competition ended at that point. She remained fifth in the final order with 1.96 as her recorded result.

Nicola Olyslagers won after clearing 2.01 metres. Yaroslava Mahuchikh also passed 2.01 and finished second on the countback. They were the only two athletes in London to clear that height.

Key facts
Place Fifth
Final cleared height 1.96 metres
Attempts at 1.99 Three misses
Winner Nicola Olyslagers, 2.01 metres

Topic did not add another outdoor mark above 1.96. The London result still equalled her season best from Athens. It also improved on the 1.94 clearance that brought her third place at the Diamond League meeting in Rabat.

Her Serbian record remains 1.98 outdoors

Topic first cleared 1.98 metres outdoors in Rabat two years earlier. That jump established a Serbian record. She later repeated the same height at the Diamond League meeting in Paris during that season.

Her 2026 indoor campaign brought another career mark. Topic cleared 2.00 metres indoors for the first time. The London meeting was an outdoor event, so the indoor and outdoor records remain separate entries in her season history.

The Serbian tennis programme is also changing as Novak Djokovic reduces his schedule before the US Open.

London added a complete attempt sequence to that record. Topic left with fifth place, a 1.96 clearance and three final attempts at 1.99. Her next result will be compared with those confirmed numbers rather than assumptions about technique.

London fits into a season of three confirmed marks

Topic's outdoor season now contains three useful confirmed results. She opened the Diamond League campaign with 1.94 metres and third place in Rabat. Athens brought a 1.96 clearance. London added another 1.96 and fifth place against a strong field.

The two competitions at 1.96 did not produce identical scorecards. London required a third attempt at 1.93 and a second at 1.96. The official attempt list preserves that difference. A season best records the height, while the scorecard records how the athlete reached it.

Her indoor clearance of 2.00 remains the highest mark mentioned in her 2026 season. That indoor mark and the outdoor Serbian record occupy separate categories. The London result therefore belongs to a separate outdoor sequence that currently peaks at 1.96.

Ten jumps produced the final scorecard

Topic made ten attempts during the London competition. She used one jump at 1.85 and one at 1.89. Three attempts followed at 1.93, two at 1.96 and three at 1.99.

Four of those ten jumps were successful. The first two clearances came immediately. Her successful jumps at 1.93 and 1.96 came on the third and second attempts.

The scorecard therefore contains six misses. Two came at 1.93, one at 1.96 and three at 1.99. Only the last three misses ended her competition.

This sequence supports the final result of 1.96 metres and fifth place. It also corrects any shorter count based only on the number of heights. An attempt and a height are different entries in the official record.

The top two shared the same height

Olyslagers and Mahuchikh both cleared 2.01 metres. Olyslagers received first place through the official countback. Mahuchikh finished second.

Topic remained five centimetres below their final successful height. Her own countback placed her fifth among the athletes who completed the London event.

Topic leaves London with fifth place and another 1.96-metre clearance, matching her outdoor season best. Olyslagers won on countback at 2.01, while Mahuchikh finished second with the same height.
