Filip Sunturlic, vice-president of the Basketball Federation of Serbia for finance and marketing, spoke at the tenth Expo Basket in Moscow. The international conference examined global basketball trends, current challenges and access to the sport. Sunturlic did not present Serbia's experience as a secret formula that can be copied without context. His central message was more useful: institutions can share working knowledge, learn from different markets and keep participation connected to the quality of the game.

Serbian experience is useful when its working conditions are explained

Serbian basketball carries a strong reputation through national teams, clubs, coaches and player development. That history creates interest abroad, but it does not make every Serbian method suitable for every country. A federation works within its own school system, facilities, finances and sporting culture. Sharing experience therefore begins with explaining the conditions that made a decision possible, not only presenting the successful outcome.

Sunturlic's statement that there is no secret formula avoids an easy but misleading promise. Development is built through repeated work: educated coaches, regular competition, clear pathways and administrators who can keep programs operating. Another organization can adopt a principle, yet it still has to adjust the schedule, scale and cost to local reality. That honest exchange is more valuable than a slogan about tradition.

Wider access can support elite player development

A global discussion about accessibility is not separate from high-level basketball. A wider base gives more children the chance to discover the sport, while visible elite teams give those children examples and ambition. The connection breaks when introductory programs are too expensive, too distant or unable to provide consistent coaching. Federations must consider how a first experience leads to the next one.

Access also includes girls, smaller communities and families that cannot travel frequently. One event cannot solve those barriers. Local coach education, shared facilities and regional competition can reduce them over time. The aim is not to promise that every participant will become a professional. It is to make sure talent and enthusiasm are not lost because the first practical step was unavailable.

Marketing should show which basketball programs it supports

As a federation official responsible for finance and marketing, Sunturlic sits where sporting goals meet sustainable organization. Sponsorship can fund programs, but a partnership works best when the audience understands what it supports. A campaign around a youth tournament, coaching project or national-team window can show a clear purpose. A logo without that connection may provide short-term visibility but little lasting relationship.

Digital platforms allow federations to show training, preparation and the people behind a result. That content should remain accurate and proportionate. Young athletes do not need exaggerated labels after one good game, and coaches should not be reduced to a quote beside a score. Patient storytelling can make development understandable while protecting the participants from unnecessary pressure.

International meetings help federations compare practical solutions

Basketball organizations face many of the same practical questions: how to train enough coaches, how to collect useful data, how to protect player health and how to schedule competitions without exhausting teams. A conference provides value when officials compare what worked, what failed and what it cost. The failed part is often the most transferable because it warns others before they repeat an expensive mistake.

Moscow's Expo Basket brought those questions into one program rather than treating basketball only as a sequence of games. Serbia can contribute knowledge from a mature sporting culture and still learn from markets with different technology, event presentation or community programs. Exchange is strongest when prestige does not prevent either side from asking basic operational questions.

The conference will matter only if practical work follows

A conference appearance becomes meaningful after the delegates return home. Useful follow-through may include a coaching exchange, a shared education resource or a small pilot program with a clear evaluation. It does not require a large announcement. A limited project that reaches the right participants and produces evidence can be more valuable than a broad agreement with no schedule.

Sunturlic's emphasis on motivation to share experience places responsibility on the institution, not only on the speaker. Serbia's basketball knowledge has influence because generations have maintained it. Continuing that influence requires openness, financial care and programs that make the sport reachable. Expo Basket offered a place to compare ideas; the quality of the outcome will depend on what those conversations change in everyday work.
