Milica Gardašević jumps 6.50 metres in Birmingham qualification

Milica Gardašević finished the women's long jump qualification at the European Championships in Birmingham. Her best attempt reached 6.50 metres with a legal wind of 1.7 metres per second.

The Serbian placed ninth in the first qualifying group and nineteenth overall. Twelve athletes advanced to the final. Gardašević therefore completed her championship appearance in the qualifying round.

Her longest jump came with a legal following wind

Gardašević produced her longest jump during the Birmingham qualification. The measured following wind remained below the legal limit. The result was therefore valid for the competition ranking. Her best distance placed her close to several athletes in the middle of the field. Only eleven centimetres separated Gardašević from the final advancing position. The legal wind kept the mark valid for the competition.

The same attempt remained her strongest jump of the round. It decided both her group position and overall place. The final field required a slightly longer distance.

Both groups formed one final ranking

The entrants competed in two qualifying groups during the same round. Their best jumps were combined into one overall ranking. The leading twelve athletes progressed to the final. Gardašević was ninth in her group. Ten athletes in the other group also produced stronger marks. The combined order placed the Serbian nineteenth among all competitors.

Eleven centimetres separated her from the final

Yanis David held the final advancing position. Filippa Fotopoulou followed in thirteenth place, one centimetre behind David. Gardašević remained another ten centimetres behind Fotopoulou. Eighteen women produced a better best mark than Gardašević. Mikaelle Assani was directly ahead with 6.52 metres. Tilde Johansson followed in twentieth place with 6.47.

Malaika Mihambo led the combined qualification. Agate de Sousa took second place from the other group. Both athletes passed seven metres during the round.

The final line was above the Serbian mark

Gardašević finished twelve centimetres behind the last finalist. Six athletes recorded marks between her jump and the qualifying line. The small gaps produced a crowded middle section. Fotopoulou missed the final by one centimetre. Assani also finished just ahead of Gardašević. Several positions were therefore decided by narrow differences.

The two leaders produced much longer jumps during the same round. Their marks established the upper end of the qualification field. Gardašević competed within the tighter group behind them.

The event demanded three controlled attempts

Athletes used a short qualification series to establish one leading mark. Gardašević's opening result remained her best performance. Her other attempts did not improve that distance. Officials measured the wind during the same leading attempt. It stayed below the permitted limit. The performance therefore entered the standings without a wind restriction.

Birmingham brought together the strongest European entrants in the discipline. Two athletes passed seven metres during qualification. The last final place remained eleven centimetres beyond Gardašević's best jump.

Birmingham ends with a confirmed nineteenth place

Gardašević finished nineteenth overall and ninth in her group. She ended the round seven places below the final qualifying position. Her longest jump remained eleven centimetres short. The final field contained the twelve longest qualifiers from both groups. David occupied the last available place. Gardašević remained behind Assani and ahead of Johansson.

Her Birmingham appearance ended after the qualification round. The result added another European Championship start to her season. It did not provide a place in the twelve-athlete final.

The combined list decided the twelve final places

Results from both qualification groups formed one combined table. Yanis David took the final place. Gardašević finished eleven centimetres behind that mark. She placed between Maélis Assani and Engla Johansson.

Malaika Mihambo led qualification and Agate de Sousa followed. Both women passed seven metres, while Gardašević remained outside the leading twelve.
