Nikola Grbic leads Poland to Nations League title after five-set final

Nikola Grbic led Poland to another men's Volleyball Nations League title. Poland defeated the United States after five sets in Ningbo. The defending champions recovered after falling behind by two sets to one.

Poland had beaten Japan in the quarter-final and Slovenia in the semi-final. The final ended 25-21, 23-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-10. Grbic has now won the competition three times with Poland.

Poland arrived after a demanding quarter-final

Poland's route through the final tournament began against Japan. That meeting required patience against a team that defended well and attacked quickly. Poland completed the result and earned the semi-final place.

Slovenia entered from another difficult match against Brazil. Its experienced players had handled important late points. The semi-final therefore offered little room for a slow start.

Grbic prepared a Polish group with depth across the attacking positions. Changes during the tournament had not reduced the team's physical presence. Poland also carried strong service pressure into the match.

The meeting in Ningbo came near the end of a long international schedule. Both teams had already played the preliminary phase and one elimination match. Recovery was important before the first serve.

Grbic managed the match through a full roster

Poland recovered during a five-set final

The United States reached the final by defeating Japan in five sets. Poland therefore met a team it knew from the preliminary stage. The earlier result did not decide the title match.

Poland won the opening set before the United States took the next two. The Americans moved within two points of victory at 23-23 in the fourth set. Poland then won two straight points and forced a deciding set.

Grbic's team made the first clear break in the deciding set. Poland moved ahead 13-7 and protected that advantage. The final point completed a 15-10 set and a successful title defence.

Kamil Semeniuk led Poland with seventeen points. Wilfredo Leon and Tomasz Fornal added fifteen each. Fornal also produced five aces during the match.

The title continued Grbic's medal run with Poland

Grbic has built a long record with Poland in international volleyball. The Ningbo victory added another completed title. It followed Nations League wins in 2023 and 2025.

Poland needed four knockout wins across the final tournament and preliminary stage. Japan tested the team in the quarter-final. Slovenia followed in the semi-final before the United States forced a fifth set.

The final demanded a different response from the semi-final. Slovenia lost in straight sets, while the United States led after three. Poland stayed organised and changed the result during the final two sets.

For Serbian followers, Grbic remained the direct connection to the event. His substitutions supported the serving and attacking rotations. Poland kept enough depth to finish a long five-set match strongly.

Jake Hanes scored twenty-one points for the United States. Matt Anderson added twenty. Their totals kept the final close until Poland created separation in the deciding set.

Slovenia defeated Japan in the bronze-medal match earlier that day. Poland then finished the tournament with gold. The United States received silver after pushing the champions through five sets.
