Li Yage wins the Apatin Open with eight points from nine rounds

Li Yage won the Apatin Open A tournament with eight points from nine rounds. The 17-year-old player from China finished one point ahead of Carlos Salgado Allaria. Pavel Lagashin took third place after the final tiebreak calculation.

The tournament ended after seven days of play at the ARK venue in Apatin. Twenty-three players competed in one Swiss-system section. The field included competitors from Serbia and several other national federations.

Li began as the fourth seed with a rating of 2043. She finished with seven wins and two draws. Her performance rating reached 2297 across the complete event.

A strong start creates room at the top

Li opened the tournament with victories against Edvard Kaloh and Trivo Kuridža. Those results gave her two points from the first two rounds. She then drew with Iliia Lunin Bohomolets.

The fourth round brought a match with top seed Željko Andabaka. Li won that game and moved ahead of the highest-rated player. The result became one of the key changes near the top.

Another important test followed against second seed Carlos Salgado Allaria. Their game ended in a draw. Li therefore remained unbeaten after facing both leading seeds.

Her position came from steady scoring rather than one late recovery. She held a place near the front throughout the week. That allowed her to approach the final rounds without chasing a large gap.

Three final victories secure first place

Li beat Branko Čopić in the sixth round. She then received a win against Laith Mulhem in round seven. The tournament record lists that result as a forfeit victory.

Pavel Lagashin provided the next opponent in the eighth round. Li won again and entered the final day as the clear leader. The result also moved Lagashin into a contest for the lower podium places.

The last round paired Li with Turkish junior Şuğra Tepeli. Li completed another victory and reached eight points. That final result removed any need for a first-place tiebreak.

Seven wins and two draws gave Li an unbeaten tournament. No opponent took a full point from her. Only Lunin Bohomolets and Salgado Allaria held her to draws.

Salgado Allaria leads the chasing group

Spanish FIDE Master Carlos Salgado Allaria finished second with seven points. He entered the event as the second seed. His only half-point against Li helped keep the contest close.

Salgado Allaria ended one full point behind the winner. That margin made the leading order simple. The tiebreak system was not required to separate first and second.

Lagashin and Branko Čopić both scored six points. Lagashin received third place through the listed tiebreak values. Čopić finished fourth as the highest-placed Serbian player.

Iliia Lunin Bohomolets completed the top five with five and a half points. Several younger players also finished inside the top ten. The final ranking reflected a mixed international field.

Serbian players remain visible in the standings

Branko Čopić led the Serbian entries with six points. His fourth place came after nine rounds against the leading group. He finished level on points with Lagashin.

Zhengyuan Lin represented Serbia and placed ninth with five points. The tournament list records Lin in the under-14 category. That result placed a young Serbian entry inside the top ten.

Top seed Željko Andabaka ended in tenth place with four and a half points. His early loss to Li changed his route through later pairings. He still completed all nine rounds.

Players from Serbia formed the largest part of the entry list. The event also included China, Spain, Slovenia, Turkey, Syria and other federations. That mix gave local players regular international opposition.

The Swiss system keeps every round active

The Apatin Open used nine rounds under the Swiss system. Players with similar scores usually meet as the event develops. A single early loss does not remove anyone from the tournament.

Each result changes the next pairing and the strength of later opposition. Li's early wins placed her against the highest-rated players. Her draws kept her score moving while protecting an unbeaten record.

Tiebreak values become important when players finish with equal points. They separated Lagashin from Čopić in the final ranking. The winner did not depend on them because Li held a full-point lead.

The published table also records ratings and age categories. That information shows the range inside the A tournament. Experienced senior players shared the section with several juniors.

Apatin closes with a clear winner

The competition ran from 24 to 30 July. Players completed one round on most days and two on selected days. The schedule produced nine rated games within one week.

Apatin Chess Club Vulkan Protektor organised the tournament with the ARK venue. The A section was open to players of different ages and categories. All games contributed to the final international rating report.

Li entered below three players in the starting order. She defeated two of those higher seeds and drew with the other. That record explains both the title and her strong performance rating.

The final round confirmed the result without a shared first place. Li finished on eight points, while Salgado Allaria stopped on seven. A full-point advantage completed an unbeaten week in Apatin.

The winner outperforms her starting position

Li was born in 2009 and entered the under-18 category. Three players held higher ratings when the tournament began. She finished ahead of all three after the ninth round.

Her listed rating increased through the quality of the results. The performance figure of 2297 stood well above her starting 2043. The report also records a gain of 92 rating points.

The largest wins came against Andabaka, Čopić and Lagashin. All three finished inside the top ten. Li also avoided defeat against second-placed Salgado Allaria.

A strong performance rating does not replace the final score. Eight points remained the number that won the tournament. The rating figures describe the strength of the opposition she faced.

The final table shows several generations

The first two places went to Li and the experienced Salgado Allaria. Lagashin and Čopić followed with equal scores. Lunin Bohomolets completed the leading five.

Edvard Kaloh reached sixth place while still in the under-12 category. Şuğra Tepeli finished seventh as an under-20 player. Zhengyuan Lin added another junior result in ninth.

The age groups did not create separate pairings inside the A tournament. Junior and senior players met according to their scores. The same points table decided every final position.

That format gave the winner opponents from several generations. Li answered the higher ratings with an unbeaten score. Her final-round victory completed the only eight-point result.
