First Squad List for the 2026 World Cup: Bosnia and Herzegovina Announce Team for the Tournament

Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team head coach Sergej Barbarez has announced a 26-man squad that will represent the national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Bosnia and Herzegovina secured qualification for the World Cup among the last teams, after defeating Italy in the play-offs. However, Bosnia and Herzegovina has become the first national team to officially announce its final squad for the upcoming World Cup.
In the group stage, Sergej Barbarez’s team will play in Group B, where their opponents will be Switzerland, Canada and Qatar.
There are no major surprises in the squad. The only debutant is 21-year-old attacking midfielder Ermin Mahmić, who plays for Czech club Slovan Liberec. He previously represented Austria at youth level.
The average age of the squad is 26.8 years. Interestingly, all the selected players play for clubs outside Bosnia and Herzegovina. The squad includes three players each from the German Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, three from the Croatian league, two representatives each from the Czech league and Italy’s Serie A, as well as players from Serie B, the English Championship and the top divisions of Portugal, France, Austria, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Denmark, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Cyprus and the Netherlands.
The most experienced member of the national team is Edin Džeko, who has turned 40. Apart from him, the Bosnia and Herzegovina squad includes only four other players over the age of 30.
